Vegan Creamy Chocolate Millet Porridge

If you haven't tried it before, millet is a gluten-free whole grain with a nutty, slightly corn-like flavor. It's a good source of fiber, antioxidants and magnesium, and its mild flavor works perfectly in porridge.


Millets have proven weight loss benefits because it is a powerhouse of several essential nutrients essential for losing weight- proteins, vitamins, and fibers that effectively helps in shedding those extra kilos. Foods that are rich in fiber help in digestion and it gets easily absorbed by your body.


Aren't you bored of eating the same oatmeal porridge with your eggs and pancakes? Simple! Let's make a creamy chocolate millet porridge for a wholesome breakfast.




Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water

  • ½ cup millet, rinsed and drained

  • 1 cup of almond milk (or any other milk)

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1-1.5 tsp of raw cacao powder

  • 3 tsps of maple syrup

To top off the porridge:

  • 1-2 pieces of dark chocolate, 1 tbsp of homemade nutella (or any other chocolate sauce), fresh fruit (can be picked based on preference or convenience) and some crushed nuts (walnuts, almonds etc)

  • If you prefer a sweeter flavor, add a natural sweetener as well

  • another option is to keep it in the fridge overnight for better flavor

  • in the morning, add some warm milk to the topping and you'll have your delicious breakfast ready to go!


Instructions:


  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the millet and salt once the water is boiling.

  2. Leave it to simmer over medium heat for around 10-12 minutes. If you notice that it is too dry, add a splash of milk to the mix.

  3. Add a half cup of milk, the cacao powder and maple syrup and stir till it is nicely mixed together.

  4. Add in the other half cup of milk. Reduce the heat and let the porridge cook over a low heat for another 10-15 minutes. Ensure you are stirring it often.

  5. Once it is creamy, remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool for at least 1-2 minutes before serving.

  6. Serve the mix in a bowl topped with some ground up nuts , pieces of dark chocolate, any chocolate sauce, and fresh fruit. You can additionally add in more milk to your bowl.

  7. Enjoy!
